How we check our facts

Every fact on Entrance Lane comes from the test owner’s own website or handbook, or from the school system that gives the test, and every page shows the date we checked it. The Entrance Lane team writes the pages, re-checks them each quarter and before every testing season, and corrects them when a test changes its sections, timing or scoring.

Where do our facts come from?

Test facts come from primary sources only: the test owner’s website, its official guides and handbooks, and, for the SHSAT, New York City Public Schools. We don’t take facts from test-prep blogs, forums or other practice sites.

How are pages dated?

Each source on a page lists the date we last checked it. A page’s “Updated” date is the most recent of those check dates, and the same date is in the page’s structured data. A date only changes when someone re-reads the source.

What happens when we can’t confirm a fact?

We leave it off the page until the test owner’s own source confirms it. For example, the HSPT’s publisher states the total working time but not the time for each section, so we don’t list section times for the HSPT.

How often are pages re-checked?

Every page is re-checked against its sources each quarter and before each fall testing season, and sooner when a test owner announces a change.

Are Entrance Lane’s practice tests official?

No. Entrance Lane writes its own practice questions to match each test’s published format. They aren’t official tests, and no test owner has reviewed or endorsed them.
